FOUNTAIN MIAMI 2009 ANNOUNCES FULL PROGRAM.

New York, NY (November 24, 2009) - Fountain is thrilled to announce the final lineup of participating galleries and performances for the fourth Miami edition of its groundbreaking program. Now widely known as the definitive alternative to the art fairs held concurrent with Art Basel Miami Beach, Fountain returns to its Wynwood warehouse at 2505 N. Miami Avenue, a 16,000 square-foot venue where thirteen New York and Miami-based galleries will present large-scale, ambitious installations over the course of four days. As its largest event to date, Fountain Miami 2009 includes several new and cutting-edge Brooklyn galleries, as well as a stellar lineup of performance and music presented in conjunction with leading arts and culture publications.

At Fountain Miami, an exciting presentation of live music and DJs will be curated by Filter Magazine, with performances by G.Love, Chairlift and more to be held on an outdoor stage. Notable DJs, including David Katz, will be performing throughout the weekend. A program of art performances will be hosted by participating gallery Grace Exhibition Space. A array of international artists and collectives will perform throughout the interior exhibition space and on the fair’s main entrance lawn.

This year Fountain announces a new partnership with the cultural tastemaker and international media site Flavorpill. Fountain and Flavorpill will collaborate in the production of an ongoing, web-based stream of media updates via Twitter, YouTube and Flickr. Media updates will be hosted by Flavorpill affiliated sites including Artkrush, Daily Dose and Flavorwire. Magazine partners include Whitehot, Filter and Irreversible magazines. Beverages for Fountain guests will be provided courtesy of Sonnema Vodka.

Fountain Miami will open to VIPs and Press on Thursday, December 03 and then to the public on Friday, December, 04 at 11am running through Sunday December 06 at 7pm. There will be a reception for the public on Friday December 04 from 7pm until midnight and a WhiteHot Magazine Launch/ Filter Magazine Curated Music Program on Saturday December 05 from 7pm until midnight. Fountain is located at 2505 North Miami Ave (at 25th Street) Miami FL 33137. Requests for media and VIP affairs may be directed to fountain@fountainexhibit.com or 917-650-3760.

Fountain was launched in March 2006 in New York in an effort to leverage support for independent galleries overlooked by the larger, corporate-sponsored art fairs. The name “Fountain” is a nod to Marcel Duchamp’s controversial sculpture that shook up the art world when it was rejected by the Society of Artists’ exhibition in 1917. Similarly, in defiant contrast with The Armory Show, Art Basel Miami Beach, Pulse, Scope and the numerous other international art fairs, Fountain has received wide public support and critical acclaim for its experimental slant favoring large, open and ambitious installation spaces. In form and spirit, the artwork exhibited at Fountain reflects the avant-garde attitude of the Dada art movement, while attracting the attention of the international clientele and top collectors who attend the more traditional fairs.

Artnet – the most widely read art site on the web – describes Fountain: “Likeability and chutzpah used to be what art was about. That, and a little guerrilla mentality, which you had at Fountain in spades. This is the place where you reminisce about the good old days, when you did it yourself, when inspiration and magic struck like a bolt from the blue.”

Plum – “Extreme, grassroots, and black sheep are names that perhaps best describe Fountain. While other art exhibits are puppets to corporate culture, this show keeps it as real as they come.”

Dear Friend,

We are pleased to present a preview of our booth at Art Basel Miami Beach. The layout of the fair is completely redesigned this year, and you will find us at the entrance to Hall B in Booth F3.

Dan Flavin will be featured in conjunction with the exhibition Dan Flavin, Series and Progressions, on view at the gallery through December 19th.

We will show a neon sculpture released for Art Basel Miami from the Estate of Jason Rhoades and a multi-part sculpture by John McCracken.

We will also debut Stan Douglas' new photograph Artist's Cabin, pictured above, which depicts the interior of a small grandfather cabin that has resisted the gentrification on the North Shore of Vancouver. Thomas Ruff will present new photographs from the cassini series using imagery from NASA's photographs of the rings of Saturn.

We will feature important paintings by Luc Tuymans, Alice Neel, Neo Rauch, Francis Alÿs, Raoul De Keyser and Mamma Andersson.

We have new works on paper by Marcel Dzama made in preparation for a major solo exhibition opening at the Musée d'Art Contemporain de Montréal early next year. We will also feature a new watercolor by Yan Pei-Ming, and works on paper by Fred Sandback and from Al Taylor's Greek Studies series.

We hope to see you in Miami next week. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.

Kindest regards,

David Zwirner

Miami and Miami Beach, Florida from December 4-10, 2007 will bring together in the largest convergence of fine art and artists the US has ever seen to play in the sun and party at night. Over 20 art fairs, more than 700 galleries and 1000's of artists from around the world all competing for sales and recognition by the world’s biggest collectors and most important curators and museum directors. If you want to play in the art world this is where you need to be.

Here is a map and information to help you navigate the landscape of what Sam Keller of Art | Basel Miami Beach and Alexis Hubshman of Scope Art Fairs helped create over the past 6 years.
